Avoid Used Canadian Vehicles

Why you should avoid buying a Used Canadian Vehicle

In recent years there has been an influx of Canadian used vehicles coming in to the U.S. Many U.S. auto dealers and auto auctions are buying these vehicles for their inventory. Some dealers want these Canadian used vehicles because they are often less expensive than the same used vehicle that has been owned and driven in the U.S. However, be careful before you buy a used vehicle that has come from Canada.

  • Canada has a brutal climate. Once there is rust and corrosion, it is difficult to stop. If a used vehicle has any rust and/or corrosion, it should be disclosed to the customer and never just covered up.
  • These vehicles were made to be sold in Canada, not the U.S. Canada has different standards for their vehicles and this could affect items like warranty, recalls and maintenance.
  • The Carfax report is important to see before you buy a used car. Carfax has been in the U.S. for over 3 decades. Carfax Canada has only been around for a short while. Check for notifications that the vehicle was repaired in Canada and or imported. Or language such as “Vehicle inspected, found to meet U.S. highway safety specifications”.
  • There must be a reason why the Canadian auto dealers and Canadian customers don’t want these used vehicles and are shipping them to the U.S. If these used vehicles were desirable, they would be re-sold in Canada.
  • Support the local economy, not the Canadian economy.

If you are considering a used vehicle, ask questions about where it came from!!
